The Fellowship of United Methodists in Music & Worship Arts

The Lloyd Pfautsch Memorial Anthem Series

Lloyd Pfautsch was one of the most important names in choral music and choral music education in the middle of the 20th century. His choral works have been performed throughout this country and around the world by leading choirs in all regions. His work as a choral educator at Illinois Weslyan University and Southern Methodist University is the standard that all educators now strive to achieve. In 2005 The Fellowship created an anthem series in his memory to sustain his legacy in choral music and provide congregations throughout the county with fresh, creative anthems aligned with Dr. Pfautsch's formal style. These anthems will be commissioned every other year and premiered at The Fellowship's biennial National Convocation. The first in the series was sung on July 19, 2007 in St. Louis, Missouri. The commission was awarded to Dr. Mack Wilberg and is an arrangement of the hymn-tune Hanover to the Charles Wesley hymn, Ye Servants of God.
